Sensory Integration Services
What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
Sensory Processing Disorder interferes with the way children process information about the world around them, creating problems that are often challenging to identify. A parent won’t know if a child’s aversion to blue paint, the smell of certain foods, or the wearing of a hat is something she will grow out of, or an indicator of something else. Sensory processing disorder can be difficult to identify as the underlying cause of these reactions. That is why diagnosis requires a health professional, often an occupational or physical therapist working with an observational checklist to identify specific indicators.
Our staff of experienced professionals are licensed and specially certified in SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests).
Often children who have autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or ADHD also have sensory integration issues, in addition to children who are otherwise typically developing.

Our Sensory Integration Services:
- Use a variety of adaptive equipment, Therapeutic Listening, and physical therapy services if needed, as well as other resources
- Research and coordinate personalized environmental adaptations and sensory activities
- Educate and train family members on techniques to use at home to ensure accurate, consistent, and effective therapy
Our In-Depth Evaluation Identifies Practical Strategies to Use at Home.
We identify any sensory difficulties your child may have and develop an evaluation document with recommendations that parents, doctors and other professionals can easily use to benefit a child. Following the evaluation, we work with you to establish a plan of care designed to meet your child’s therapy goals. This plan of care is reviewed with you periodically to ensure that progress is being made.
Referral process
Our referral coordinator will ask you a series of questions designed to ensure that your child receives the appropriate type of evaluation. You will then receive a packet of information including a questionnaire (Link to child medical questionnaire.doc attached separately). Once we receive your completed information packet, we will contact you to schedule an appointment for an evaluation.
Referral through your pediatrician
You will need to call or visit your pediatrician to obtain a scrip authorizing the evaluation. Your M.D. can fax the prescription to (401) 533-9102, attn: Therapeutic Services.
Referral through your school district
If your child has received a recent evaluation from your school district, we can accept this evaluation and schedule a therapy appointment immediately.
Who Pays for Therapy?
Most insurance companies will pay for “medically necessary” therapy, and they will usually cover the cost of the evaluation — they will then determine funding the services from the results of the evaluation. Therapy services may also be covered by Medicaid. For further information, please contact our referral coordinator at
