Meeting Street has been selected as the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Outreach Partner for 2011- 2013 for the state of Rhode Island. Meeting Street joins a nationwide network of 55 mental health organizations that disseminate research from NIMH about the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental disorders. Meeting Street will also work with NIMH to promote public involvement in their research studies.
Since 1990, the NIMH through its Outreach Partnership Program has worked with organizations from every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto to educate the public about mental health disorders, and help to reduce the stigma of mental illness.
“Meeting Street is honored to be chosen by the National Institute of Mental Health as their outreach partner. The information that we disseminate on behalf of the NIMH will be of great value to families and mental health professionals throughout Rhode Island," comments Isabella Iemma, Meeting Street’s Director of Mental Health and Family Support Services who will coordinating the outreach.
As the NIMH Outreach Partner, Meeting Street will be disseminating information and research results from the NIMH, offering mental health training for professionals, and will be alerting the public to new research studies that are planned and are in need of participants.
The National Institute of Mental Health is one of 27 components of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the federal government’s principal biomedical and behavioral research agency. NIH is part of the U.S. department of Health and Human Services.
