Meeting Street Awarded Early Head Start Grant
Meeting Street is proud to announce we have been awarded an Early Head Start grant of $1.2 million from federal government stimulus money. This grant is to support the early development and education of 72 children from low-income families in Providence. The Meeting Street Early Head Start program will be implemented over the next two years. Meeting Street is the only new Early Head Start provider chosen by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to provide these services in Rhode Island.
Early Head Start supports children from birth to age three from low income families and also provides pre-natal support and education to pregnant mothers. Children and families enrolled in Early Head Start are supported through education, social service and health screening programs. Based on a child’s needs they may also receive pediatric therapy or mental health services.
Meeting Street will be delivering Early Head Start services in homes, at Meeting Street and in community centers in Providence that already work with low income families. Meeting Street will partner with these centers to help identify children that are eligible for Early Head Start. A portion of the federal grant money will be used to make improvements at the community centers so the environment is conducive to teaching and learning.
